Had to take the water pump off to address a different problem and re-installed with new gaskets. Now I have a pretty good leak between the pump and the gear case that is hard to see when the engine is mounted and running. Thought I may have missed a step somewhere and ordered new gaskets, pulled the engine, installed new gaskets and mounted it back up and still leaking from same area.

Have taken everything apart again and made sure I had no cracks in the housings and everything looks good. I have now noticed a pin hole and channel on the backside of the pump housing that looks like it runs up into the impellor shaft housing. Not sure of the purpose of this channel but it is in the area where it is leaking.

Thanks in advance for any help.

If you are refering to the hole in the pump housing that is located below shaft and between pulley and housing, that is a weep hole made in the pump. If it weeps at this hole, replace pump as the seal is leaking.
