Recently purchased a home with 1.1 Acres and needed to get a riding mower. To my surprise (and my fiance's delight thinking we just saved $$$..maybe we did maybe we didn't) a TG1860 Diesel was left by the seller.
I believe it was for the owner who passed away several years ago before they rented the house for a few years and the heirs decided to sell and left a lot of things they no longer cared about or didn't want to deal with. The property manager had a lawn company servicing the property and bamboo blocking the shed door indicates it sat for a year or more. They could provide little to no info on the state or history of the mower.

Looks to be in good condition, with no battery. Key in the ignition. The deck may have even been replaced at one point as it looks newer than its surroundings.
I am clueless when it comes to small engines/diesel engines. Other than the obvious of getting a battery, is there an outline of steps to follow to see if it'll run before contacting a dealer/repair shop?

Any other things I should just go ahead and replace now or change out other than the battery?

Appreciate the help in advance.

Terrible idea…I think you should just let me come take it off your hands 😉

But seriously I would put a battery in it and see what it does. May get lucky and it starts right up. Verify oil level before cranking it. May need to bleed the fuel system as well if it doesn’t fire right up.

check engine oil, antifreeze level in the rad, belts/hoses and look in the fuel tank for anything obviously bad.

If it's the TG1860 and not the TG1860G (g=gas) then it's a diesel.
Put in a good battery, engage the glowplugs on the <spring loaded> ignition switch until the GP light goes out <on the dash> and then crank it.....dollars to donuts it'll cough and sputter, blow black smoke and start right up.

Love my TG1860 ! ! ! (but I am not an authority, so what I can answer will be quite minimal)

Make sure of the fuel being diesel. I would try to drain any fuel in the tank by removing a hose coming forward from the tank.

To start you need to have the brake peddle push down and locked in place.
