My dynamo was not charging the battery so I replaced it with a new one from Messicks. I am getting the same issue. I have voltage at the dynamo positive terminal when the battery is connected (proves connection to battery) but no voltage when the battery leaders are disconnected. The tractor starts and runs fine off the battery. Is there anything I am missing? Strang the new one would not work.

There are two wires connecting the dynamo to the regulator. Check for AC voltage on them at regulator and battery voltage on the third terminal of regulator. If you have AC voltage and battery voltage at regulator, it has failed. Regulator failure is very common on these units, hardly ever see a dynamo failure.
