A couple of years ago after mowing one of our fields I noticed Hyd oil pooling beneath my B2620, Oh "you know what". Ok, its a good thing I kinda like tearing stuff apart, as the tallgrass had wrapped itself around both ends of the propeller shaft destroying the bearing seals. Of course the only way to replace the propeller shaft bearing seals, was a good old fashion tractor split. So I spent several days replacing the seals. Not wanted to repeat this PIA I decided to try this mod. After several years of mowing 3 foot tall grass there has been no problems. :):)

The zip ties are sketchy, but it looks like 5 stars for functionality!

Yeah, those ties will break for sure. But, now that you know where you want the protection, you can weld in some tabs to bolt it in. If you don't have access to a welder, locking wire/ safety wire can replace the cable ties.

Looks very functionally. 3 years and counting, I’d say you’ve done well.

Good quality vinyl zip ties are surprisingly strong, and not cheap.

I had considered doing something similar in the past to protect the underbelly of my B2910, using expanded metal like you did.

But someone talked me out of it, saying it would collect grass and become a fire hazard.

I take it this has not been an issue for you?

No issues. I will occasionally check during a mow, but that is to make sure the grass has not found its way to the shaft and bearing seals. There has been no accumulation of debris. :)
