Tachometer, quit working. The weird parts is it rests below "zero" now. At least my dad had Kubota's since the early 90s, I've had mine for long enough, worked on equipment too. Can "guess" the RPMs by sound. Annoying though. What's going on? L4200 by the way.

It sounds as if the tach has suffered a mechanical failure.

Messick’s says that tach is discontinued …. You might see if an instrument-repair shop can fix it.

Its a mechanical gauge - I would start by inspecting the drive cable. Broken tachometer/speedometer cables are pretty common.

By the way,removed the cluster a opened it. Where the needle seats is cracked. Cable and drives were ok. thinking epoxy needle to shaft. Have JB on hand also. Whichto use?

a very small dab of 5 minute epoxy or clear nail polish

You will need something very light to hold the needle to the shaft or the weight will affect the reading. I would use a Cyanoacrylate glue for the repair aka Super Glue. My wife bought me a bottle that you keep in the freezer and took it out to use it. It doesn't freeze, but it keeps the potency of the glue. It is called Max 1 and the website is www.max1.us I have never used a super glue like this before, but it is better than any that I have ever used.
