I am having trouble finding rottella 5w40
Our local WallyMart carries Rotella T6 5w40.

EDIT: I just noticed you are in Nova Scotia. However, I just looked up a WallyMart in NS and they do have Rotella T6 5w40 in the store. (Both 5L and 18.9L containers)

So I stand corrected. I went to the actual walmart store and they had rotella t6 0w40 for 47.00 they showed none on line at the digby store. they did not have the 5w 40 if they did have it in stock it was 40.00 I just bought the 0w40 that should work out ok. On the way home I passed a shell station diesel was 1.87 a liter. Makes me look way smarter than I am owning the 23 hp tractor

Do you realize that WallyMart offers a service of 'delivery to store'? You get what you want and there are no shipping-costs.
thank you for letting me know that. I will look into it . Walmart and amazon .com are far different than walmart and amazon. ca

So in the last six months I have bought two new units with Kubota diesels in them Grasshopper 325D and a MX- 6000 tractor. I grew up in the oil business and have always used Mobil Delvac or Shell Rotella. I have a couple older diesels that I use conventional oil in but the rest of the fleet on the farm I use Synthetic. So I said to the Grasshopper dealer conventional or synthetic in the Kubota he says conventional only. I said to the Kubota tractor dealer conventional or synthetic he says conventional in the Kubota's, I am close to fifty hours on each of them so should I use conventional or synthetic in them. I will probably change the mower at 50-100 hours after the first oil change and probably 100 hours on the MX-6000 after the first oil change.
What does your owner's manual say? That's what you need to use.

I have been using Mobil1 in the HD 15W50 and royal purple in trannie and transfer case no problems. 5w30Mobil 1 for diesel in both orange beasties, The Silverado get M1 as well 5W30 for gas motors. However in the old tractor and Chevy truck, it was what ever was on sale and I never had a lick of problems, so I guess, ya spends your money and takes your chance

Since this topic is discussed frequently, and I’m looking at my 50 hour service in a few months, I decided to ask Kubota corporation directly. This is the response I received today:

“Reached out to our Kubota Technical support team and the team assured that either Synthetic or Conventional oil of 10W-30 (CJ-4) is a suitable oil for your unit.
That neither within these parameters would be a hindrance to your warranty

Best Regards,

Personally I think so, but I posted the response I received from Kubota. I think the 5w would be good for winter. It would be good for others to weigh in on the 40w. Is it significantly thicker than 30w?

After their break-in period, I switched to Rotella T6/5w-40 full syn in both my BX's and my son's BX. Now it seems very hard to get in my area. I stopped by my local AA store for another item, and they had 1 gal of it at $36. bucks. No more available. I purchased it. Home Depot used to have it for $22. bucks. It seems the other Rotella T oils are available in my area. T6 nowhere to be found. I do see it on Amazon, at + $50. a gal. Not sure what the issue is with the T6. Must be that it is full Syn.

The local Cummins shop has cases of Valvoline super premium blue 5W-40 synthetic for $30/gallon. That oil is installed at the factory for Cummins motors so it’s good enough for me. I quit looking for Rotella T6.

I have never understood the fixation on Shell Rotella. There are multiple brands offering 5W40 HD diesel oil.

Rotella T6 was readily available for many years and for a reasonable price. Those that used it had no reason to switch since it performed well. Recently there has been complaints of none available, but that isn't the case in my area.

Absolutely none available in our area here in NW IL and southern WI. Hell ANY synthetic diesel engine oil is near impossible to find though at the local "farm" stores they do sell a store brand that is occasionally available. Oddly a few months ago our local Menards store was running a sale on Rotella T-6 5W-40 nearly giving it away. IIRC it was $15 gal. I never dreamt it would become so scarce. I bought 2 gallons to complement one I had on hand (though I did use that one) so I have 2 left. So I currently have enough for 2 oil changes. I am hoping Shell gets it act together before I actually "need" it :D
