Subsoiler for B2650

Any recommendations/experiences with acquiring and using a sub-soiler/ripper on their B2650/LX2610 tractor's 3-point? My need will be for sub-soil ripping yearly along the outside of the treed swales I'm building, to keep tree roots trained downward and not spread into planted alley crops and alley pastures. Ripping also with helps air and water exchange for the subsoil, and ripping it doesn't need to reach full depth at once. It may take a few years for the action to work soften the soil profile to the full depth of a sub-soiler - no rush - as it wouldn't make it that deep anyway with initial passes on a smaller tractor like this.

I borrowed a neighbor's TSC subsoiler to do the 3 acre sweet corn patch. Wasn't quite sure how it would work behind the B2650 but it pulled it no problem and it was buried to depth as it went along. It really surprised me. Your local soil conditions probably have more to do with how deep in a single pass you can go with it. Not sure if it helped the soil conditions here or not but I'm sure it didn't hurt. Will be doing it again this spring.

I have a subsoiler I use in my garden to help prevent roots from trees invading it and to help with as you say with air and water entering the soil.

I perform this once in the spring prior to planting and then again before planting my winter cover crop.

I purchased a Everything Attachments sub soiler, they are local to me here in North Carolina. It is a beast. For my L4600 it is just he right length, as max height it does not drag ground, think it would be to long for your tractor. Not enough lift on the 3 point to clear the ground.

I do recommend not using it with a quick hitch and mount it straight to the 3 point arms and top link. Got a big root with mine and it ripped it off the quick hitch tore some stuff up on the quick hitch. Had to weld the top link section back on the quick hitch. I was going slow in low 2 but when it grabbed the root I was not fast enough to engage the clutch and stop.

I cannot find the exact one that I have but it is like this combination middle buster/subsoiler combination. To change it from a middle buster to a subsoiler yoiu just unbolt the furrower and and change the subsoiler bit. It works like a champ.

I use mine with the Harbor Freight quick hitch. I have hit cottonwood roots but it just rips them out without stopping the tractor. I drive only in low range when subsoiling.

I use a tsc sub soiler on my L3200, sure it will fit on your 3 pt hitch fine on your B or LX2601.

TSC is Peavey Mart here in Manitoba, and they carry a Braber subsoiler there for $320. Is yours a braber?

No mine is a Countyline, they appear similar in size, cheaper at TSC $200. I’m sure it will work the same, they work well.

My experience is that soil condition makes all the difference...

I had a home made adaptor to use the same shank as the Heavy Hitch sub soil tool... It worked well..
I now have a Heavy hitch sub soil tool...

In our ground I'm going to build a homemade "mole plow" shank to run with the Heavy Hitch shank holder.. This to use around our fruit trees and bushes to help retain as much water as possible..

$200 TSC version here. My L4740 pulls it at full depth in my heavy Ohio river Valley clay. I’ve been very pleased with the investment. Works well for areas that lay wet. A couple passes with the subsoiler and a little time and they drain away dry.

Check the maximum width on the BX 3 point and max lift height. Then compare to the subsoiler. Those are the two issues I would see you having.

Not sure if this helps, I don’t have a before picture. This was made to originally tow behind an ATV, I took the wheels and adjuster off, then made it fit a 3pt hitch. I dubbed it the dirt ripper 3000. this is what we use to tear up the ground for our food plot. That was its maiden voyage. it ripped the remaining juniper roots out without too much of an issue, I did go real slow in 4x4 low. In the spring I need to modify where the top ling goes and we are going to hook it up to the ’72 IH and see what happens.
