Got the word from the local rental outfit that they are still 2 weeks out
from renting anything that goes in the ground!
Even though the ground has been thawed for weeks.

I was planning on running 220V to the shop and needed a trencher,
I have already hand dug around my well pump line so I am ready to go.

Looked around and found some metal lying around and got to work, I think this will work

It will hook to the FEL Bucket via the 2” ball hitch and have either solid or
chain upper supports going to the bolt on hooks.
I wish I had a back hoe to attach it to. :D

I will also add a pipe laying attachment to help drop the wire
to the bottom of the trench. (something like this)

Got two hours into it so far, I think I can beat the 2 weeks! :D

Looking at that - the premise is fine.....I think I would use the three point rather than the FEL, you could end up bending that flat spot on the FEL, one large rock or root.....

The 3 point is built obviously with 3 points, all three have been built to take a little abuse. The bucket being forced up or down might bend that flat spot.

Like the idea a lot- just hope it will not hurt the bucket!:)

Bill, How deep you plowing the wire? Your beam might be too light weight! I would think, even with no codes, you'd want the line at least 18"-20" min. so you would drive a "T" post in it some time.

Concept is good, you just have to dig deeper into the bone pile!

I will look into the three point route, Possibly utilizing the 3-Point receiver...
was thinking I would get more down force with the FEL

I am in eastern Ohio and they tell me 24 inches. I plan on running power to my garage, about 100 ft. I would love to go underground but I have dozens of trees and real hard, Rocky soil. I may run mine above ground.

with the ripper and a little bit of angle it will pull itself to depth anyway, no down pressure needed, and the 3pt is stronger and better for pulling it up.

I would most definitely pull behind you instead of push it, especially if someone will be walking along feeding cable as you go. If something happens, you will drive away from the other person, instead of over them if they stumble or?? I picked up one of these attachments for my backhoe for doing just that. It also has a secondary set of "wings" for a wider trench. I got it from a vender on here. I suckered NIW into helping me run 110 buried cable from the pump house to the woodshed, then the other way to an outdoor covered carport, then out to the front gate for entry lights. About 220' total. I "softened" the ground with the first pass, getting rid of major roots and rocks. We then took a roll of wire, ran it thru s 1" conduit with a 90 sweeper, tiewrapped to the back of the trenching tool for depth. We fed the cable as we drove, and it mostly buried it as the dry soil fell back into the trench as we went thru.
Came thru with a heavy metal rake and pushed the trench full, and it rained a week later. Way easier than I thought.

I think wire would work like pipe,, if you run it out first, and then feed the wire in Im thinking you should be able to do it by your self and not have to worry about someone feed it

OK, I have made it to REV. 2

I left it so that it could still be FEL mounted
because it was easier than starting over :D

Still need to add a upper 3-Point attachment,
and I grabbed a new ripper shank,
so I do not have to rob the box blade when I need this.

I'm watching with interest to see if this works. I know it wouldn't work where I am, this is about the smallest setup that would work here.:D

Tip for teens .... Run 2 passes along your lay route before trying to run the wire. That way you find the big rock/root before you have wire in the ground. It also loosens the soil to make the going easier.

One more tip ... the subsoiler is designed to dig itself into the ground. When you set it up make sure you set your toplink so the top is just slightly tilted forward and it will bury itself to the limit of your 3pth.

We buried 200' of 1" field pipe in 30 minutes including coupling the 2 100' lengths together.

WOW, where do you live the Rocky Mountains? LOL
When I hand dug around my well pump power cable
12 inches deep close to the house WTF,
3.5 feet close to the wellhead the biggest rock I found
was about a half an inch.
And I'm staying away from the trees.

BTW, that looks like something they use up in the Fairplay area at about 12,000 feet in Park County

I live just outside Phoenix, but I have a place in the high country where the tractor lives. Sample pics:

Yours is a lot prettier than mine. I use mine to pull up dead stumps sometimes. (The
gadget is flat on the ground - I rotated the picture )
