stuck pto shaft on mower deck

I was removing a broken bolt the other day.
Noticed that the pto shaft was installed backwards, I didn't know this was possible but the diagram shows otherwise.
The collar closest to the mower will not turn fully and release.
I have applied WD-40 and tried twisting, yanking, and swearing.
Didn't work.
Who has a fool proof way to remove the collar and save my sanity?

Not much advice from here, but a lot of sympathy. Could you post a picture or two? Just thinking - have you tried unhooking the mower by taking off the arms and top link and driving the tractor away from the mower to give you a little more room? The PTO shaft should slide out as you pull away. Then maybe a buddy could fasten a chain on it somehow and give it some blows with some kind of weight fastened to the chain. You would be under it holding the collar back as much as possible. Please keep us posted. Good Luck!

The mower is disconnected from the tractor. I've got plenty of room.
Sorry, I didn't explain that very well.
I had my Dad working a hammer and punch while I was turning the collar, no deal.

I will take pics and attempt posting.

The collar has a snap ring. I may try taking it apart in an effort to remove and replace.
I don't like the current collar. My snow blower has a much better collar, I would like to install the same.
Will try and post pics of this one as well.

I'm not familiar with that collar type of PTO locking mechanism. If memory serves me correctly, you pull/push the collar to lock or free it. I see that it is stuck to the mower, not the tractor. I'd continue to spray it liberally with a penetrating solvent, such as PB Blaster. I'd also try to tap it forward to get it moving. You may have to dismantle the U-joint in the PTO and us a large puller. If you don't want to save the locking collar, you could cut it off. Good Luck and keep us posted!

This collar is turned clockwise/counter clock wise.
I will try once more to remove it as a whole unit.
I will probably end up pulling it apart piece by piece.
My snow blower has the pollar which is pulled/pushed. I will end up putting this one on.
Will advise.
