Some of the more experienced guys may give you better advice.

One way is to drill the damaged hole and tap threads to a bigger diameter plug.

Another is to use metal epoxy to fill in the damaged hole partially, then drill and tap threads to original size plug. It needs to be real clean for the epoxy.

Also consider warranty issues and whether there is enough room to tap.

Best route whenever possible is to go ovesize.
Drilling slow with a bit of grease on bit will trap the chips.drill a litlle, clean bit repeat.
Same when tapping, grease it and you may get lucky and keep everything out of trans.

Or install a rubber expandable plug

My step son from Texas with a Chevy Suburban had a rebuilt tranny put in. 4 Months later it crapped out when he visited me. The rebuilt attachment to the transfer case had a bolt stripped. This is how the Texans fixed it. They squeezed the "legs" of a cotter pin alongside the bolt and tightened it in. The shop here did the drill-out, thread, and insert to fix it.

Oops. Dont use the rubber plug. Its the drain.
As mentioned above, there are a wide assortment of oil drain plugs used in engine oil pans, then first and second oversize which are self threading.
