Hi everyone,

Just wondering if anyone could possible help me pinpoint a noise which we believe is coming from the front driveshaft area of our B1700. It does seem to be more prominent when we are experiencing colder weather.

I have spent a little time searching on here and have spotted a few posts mentioning something to do with the plastic covering vibrating but with no audio evidence of the said noise in these posts I thought it would be a good idea to post a video in the hope that somebody may recognise what it may be in this instance.

Please see/hear attached video below.

Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

After listening to it several times, to me it sounds like a piece of plastic scraping against something. Like the straight edge that is sliding back and forth, unable to flex - it vibrates.

Open the hood/bonnet and see if that changes anything while moving.

Sounds like a dry bearing chatter to me.

Kind of sounds like a "pump cavitating" noise to me.

Throwout bearing chatter.
If you want to confirm, when it making the noise push down on the clutch pedal, does the noise go away or change?

Thank you for all the feedback everyone.

We've ruled out the noise coming from the bonnet area, as in a lack of flex within the bodywork and such.

We are fairly certain it's more of a mechanical issue if that makes sense.

Yes the noise does indeed disappear when the clutch pedal is down.

Although not on the video sometimes when driving the noise 'briefly' changes to an almost squeal or siren like sound. Although most of the time it behaves like it does in the video I posted yesterday.

from your reply it 'sounds' like the throwout bearing needs replacing.
if(when) you do 'split the tractor', you should consider replacing clutch, throwout bearing and the 'pilot bushing'. An online parts page should show you the pieces. The ones I posted are from Canadian Kubota parts Finder Webpage, for a B1700D. Since you're on the other side of the pond, use a local website. The pilot bushing is #030 'dry bushing'. clutch is pricey.'throwout bearing , they call 'release bearing #010. hopefully this gives you a 'look' at what's involved.Others who have done the work can supply the 'details'.

Hours? Some might recommend replacing the transmission seal too while broke apart. Brother had to replace seal year after clutch replaced.
