Darn wheel, steering wheel that it. Since I blew my steering gear in the snow last week I've been trying to get that wheel off. It is on a B7100, early model, and I think it's never been off before. The standard wheel remover will not work, no bolt holes. I can't seem to find a gear puller that will grasp it. I've even bolted a bar across the bottom of the wheel to the wheel puller still won't move. I've been tapping, banging and soaking. nothing yet! other ideas anyone???

I used a standard gear puller and pulled up on the bottom of the wheel. Be careful and tap it every once in a while, but mine did come off. There should be an indent in the middle of the steering shaft where you can use the puller. I think I had a standard 3 jaw 6 inch gear puller. Good luck. The gear puller did leave some marks in the bottom of the steering wheel, but at least it came off. :)

I did the same - but used a hydraulic puller. The bottom of the wheel is pretty tough., but it left small dentations. I used plenty of WD40. The pressure necessary was more than I was comfortable with, but eventually the wheel jumped off.

I think the puller is the only way.

Well it's off! As was suggested, just find a gear puller that is just "A lot BIGGER" that the last one(s) used. I purchased a puller that was/is rated for 6ton. Wow. what a crack of a sound it made when it finally came loose. And again, the truth was told about the big puller's use. The pressure required made me a little uncomfortable.

Just be sure to get the wheel secure when you put everything back together. The nut backed off mine after the steering rebuild and wouldn't you know it. The very time it desided to come of was about the same time the back of my tilt bed trailer hit the ground and I was left holding the steering wheel in my hand coming off the trailer backwards with no way to steer. No damage to anything but maybe a well pinched seat cover.

Good advise! That would be as bad as what happened when the box failed except you wouldn't be thinking it was possible again to lose steering. Maybe a drop or two of removable loc-tite would be a good idea.

i,ve been thinking about the water geting in the steering box and since
my box just got rebuilt, i thought i should fix it properly. i added a skirt to
the bottom of the steering wheel so no water can ever get into the steering
box. unless the tractor goes for a swim!!!!
