My starter on my L175 is shot. 1/2 the commutator is roasted on it.

I noticed the newer kubota models like the D750 series of engines seem to be about the same dimentionally. Same rotation, same power, same tooth count.

What I also notice is new starters for these newer models are 1/2 the price or a rebuilt L175 starter.

Anyone have any experience in this?

I sure din't want to pay $300 to $500for a new starter.

This is what I did. I bought a similar type starter, not a gear reduction unit. I bought it for a B1550 , B1750, universal diesel. Or a starter for a D750 or Z500 engine. Kubota part number 15231-63012.

This is not a bolt in, but no drillng or other similar work is needed. The motor itself will replace the motor for your original starter assembly. You need to reuse your starter solenoid and nosestarter nosecone. so buy a new solenoid if you need one.

The B1550 starter has a smaller alignment circle ad smaller bolt holes for the nose cone. Also, the starter noscone to motor bolts are shorter and larger thread diameter. You reuse your motor bolts, but add a nut to space them back maybe 1/2" or so. I put the bendix linkage from the solenoid from the B1550 starter, buttey are the sam. The B1550 has a pivot seat, ut the hole for the pivot seat lines up just right with the pivot bolt.

The solenoid from the B1550 starter has wider mounting bolt spacing than the L175.

Not sure what a good L175 starter should crank at, but I have no problems starting it in cold eather with the new starter motor.

To get my starter going again, it costed me $65, not $300-500. Add an extra $20 for a new solenoid.

This worked amazingly well but, I changed over the starter drive also. Was about 3/8 inch in diameter difference. Made the job twice as hard but, watching that engine spin over like it was already running was absolutely amazing.
