Hi all. My 2601 stopped running and I pulled the oil pan to check piston clearances and I found a little spring in the pan. About 1/2" long and almost looks like a fuel pump spring but that is still there. Any ideas where this lil guy belongs? Appreciate the insight..

I don't know if it is possible for the oil pressure relief spring to make its way to the pan, maybe you could check that it is still there behind the oil filter. The part number is
#1J050-36950 SPRING
if you can find one at a dealer for comparison.

Does the engine still turn ? If it is the oil relief valve, that would mean no pressure/ little if any lub.

just the spring ?
I don't know that engine, but on others, there's a 'series' of check ball, spring, retaining cover, bolt so I'm wondering HOW just a spring got into the sump ??!!??
