I have a 14 foot hydraulic line for a cutter that got cut about a third of the length. I called the manufacturer and the technician suggested that NAPA auto can splice hydraulic lines to save some money. I haven't priced a new hose yet but is this safe?

I would imagine they'll crimp new fittings on the cut ends and then use a double male to thread them back together.

Should be fine, and certainly cheaper than 14 feet of hose!

Yup, as long as the nipple is crimped on you will be fine. ;)

There's also a repair fitting or end you can get, it is assembled by screwing one half into the hose, then sliding the other half up the hose from the outside, and it threads onto the first half. Don't know if they are still making that one, there are so many different types of hoses, today...:D

Re-useable hose splice fittings are very expensive compared to two crimp on hydraulic fittings. Can get male pipe on one end and female on other and just thread together. Most hose shops will repair your hose if its not real old.
