Well, this morning made it 7 days with her in the Trauma ICU, and after a few more "procedures" she is healing. Doctor estimates that it will take about 3 months before she will be able to stand with assistance. Sometime tomorrow she will be moved by ambulance to a medical facility that will monitor her physical injuries and do physical therapy. Her mood is a lot better, and she now realizes the seriousness of her injuries.

Good to hear that she is making progress. Hopefully those facilities aren’t too far from you so that you aren’t having to travel a lot to visit her. Still thinking of the both of you and sending thoughts and prayers to both of you.

Been spending a lot of time with her in the rehab facility, and today they advised that she has to leave in 7 days. I don't know where she is going because they are talking of releasing her to go home. Problem is that she has to be in a hospital bed or a wheelchair without putting any weight on her legs for the next 80 days or so. She is in good spirits but worried what is going to happen. I know that I can't care for her and our home isn't handicap accessible. According to the hospital care person she will not have Medicare coverage for any more facilities since they have determined that her progress has met its limits until her pelvis heals. I will be calling Medicare in the morning to figure out what alternatives we have. She is going to need skilled nursing until her pelvis heals and she can start to walk again. I am at a loss at this point. I doubt that she will be home until February or March.

There should be some social services personnel at the hospital that will assist you and your wife find out what or where you can get her transferred to.

There are skilled nursing facilities but they are usually used just for a few days to weeks. They are not a great place to be from what I know.

They may just send her to your home. There are home care nurses that can come in and assist with her care.

You will need to ask for assistance from the hospital social services department and they will provide it. If you don’t get a little pushy the hospital won’t give you much assistance

The hospital just needs to discharge her since she can be discharged/doesn’t need to be given the level of care at the hospital.

Dusty, perhaps you can modify something in you home to make things work. You can check with senior center and drug stores, even funeral homes for rental of hospital bed and wheel chair or other hardware needed.

I'm thinking medicare covers like 90 days in a nursing home for rehab.

Whoever you talk to, if you don't get an answer you can live with, ask, "What an I suppose to do?" Try to get references on what direction to go.

Ask the hospital for a Case Manager, Care Manager or Patient Advocate. They are social workers that work to advocate for the patient and help navigate the system to get proper care. Most hospitals have them but don’t advertise them as available for the patients. Plug they can help coordinate care between departments. Check with Medicare and see if they can offer or recommend that type of service in your area. Also, if she has a Primary Care doctor, reach out to them and see they can help either extending her stay at a facility or getting the help you need at home.

Dusty - I agree with others to look into it further. That 7 day thing doesn’t sound right, especially if she is not able to function in the home.

My mom has been in rehab 2 times in 2024. Guessing total thus far is 20-30 days, and is due to be discharged to rehab from hospital again today. It was part of the discharge plan by the Case Manager and Social Worker.

When we cared for my FIL. there were a couple facilities in the area that loaned out medical equipment.
Hospital beds, wheelchairs, ramps, walkers, bed rails, portable toilets, etc.
They also supplied bed pads, diapers, & cleanup supplies when available.
We borrowed a few items, and found a new powered hospital bed for low $$ on CL.
We had a nurse come in every other day to assist.
After he passed, we returned all the borrowed items and gave them the hospital bed & a huge supply of diapers, bed pads and such also.

Don’t have much for high-end tools, but I (usually) know where stuff is.

After putting wrenches away frworking on pellet stove, we have something amiss……7/16 combination missing from the SAE drawer…..

No one in there but me……or a pilfering interloper…..considering filing a Police Report. (Sarcasm emphasized….. - ticks me off when I do that….)

PS - found it on final clean up. Right where I left it.

Sometimes I luck out...

Was checking coax connections in the house (no internet service) and found a small coil of 12/2 romex in the cellar that had a wire nut on the hot wire.

Was LIVE and obviously something our bathroom contractor overlooked this spring. Just noticed it today myself.

Got it shut off (double-checked that twice).

Now it's back on and identifies as a GFCI receptacle in the cellar.

Can't have too many of those.

Lack of internet service was due to the power cord falling out of the router......realized that after restarting the router the second time......

Don't use LocTite a lot but used it up while back.

Last week walked by it at TSC.

Went to put it away.....
