Ten years ago at 42 yrs old my wife looked up her old highschool boyfriend on facbook. Cheated on me and ruined our family. I filed for divorce and have primary residence for my children. I've never used facebook and never will. Its satans tool. In the last ten years talking to customers and friends I've found my facebook story isn't uncommon as is the age of 40 with other folks whos wife had decided the grass is greener.
I've been told by many that my business needs facebook to survive and thrive and I tell them I trust in God and I've never been without orders. No Facebook needed.
That sucks. I am so sorry to hear of your and your kid's experience. But the statistics show that the rate of male and female infidelity was the same in 2018 as it was in 1998, and that divorce rates have actually gone down over that same period. Social media is fanning the flames of conspiracy theories, making it difficult to have a common understanding of basic "facts" and encouraging polarization, but I haven't seen any vetted data that says it is promoting your concern across the general population.

If you're not paying for it, YOU are the product.

I was on FB for a while. Dropped it years ago and haven't missed it.

I don't have my own face book account. About the only thing I like about it is selling stuff on market place. My wife has a face book account. So if I need to sell something. It gets posted on her page.

I almost lasted 2 days when I signed up out of boredom earlier this year. I couldn't believe all the whining and complaining. A big waste of time in my opinion.

Unfortunately, the statistics around, "satisfaction", "happiness" and "optimism" have dropped over the last 30 years. And the results of hopelessness - addiction, dropping out of the workforce and suicide have risen over the same time.

I happily celebrate all the gains technology has delivered, but that in no way washes over the challenges and costs associated with it. We can embrace the overall connecting power of the internet while still objecting to some of its most isolating and divisive uses.
One hundred years ago one percent of the houses in America had both electricity and indoor plumbing. I would feel a lot worse having to shit outside in the dark when its 10 degrees than worrying about Facebook. I don't know anyone majorly dissatisfied with their lot in life. Then again Pittsburgh has been voted Americas most livable city a few times. Mental health issues have dogged humanity since the beginning of time. "Your life is your life. Know it while you have it..... You are marvelous. The gods wait to delight in you." The Laughing Heart - Bukowski
