I have talked with Cross and their VS2 selector valve is acceptable.

They also suggested another alternative which I did not consider.

If you install the VS2 valve before your current valve, you then have the option of using that valve should you ever have the need.

The VS2 valve would have as its IN the line currently feeding the rear valve.... the power beyond line from your loader.

The VS2 valve has two possible outputs depending upon which position you put its control knob.

One position would be the feed to your splitter or chipper.

The other position would be the feed to your existing valve.

You would need to put a Tee into the tank line (reservoir line) on your existing valve.

This Tee branch would be the tank line from the splitter or chipper valve.

Their is nothing magical about the Cross valve.

Why not just put a simple on-off valve on the capped off power beyond port of the existing valve?

Do standard detent valves operate in this manor? I thought only pressure release detent valves acted in this manor.
This is a serious response..... what is a standard DETENT valve? You can have a float Dentent on a loader valve or end of stroke detent such as found on the auto return stroke of a wood splitter

The owner of the tractor had(s) a valve without a detent and was using a banjo strap to hold it open to feed the valve on a splitter or chipper.

A forum member suggested he get a new valve with a detent.

My response was that as soon as the splitter reached a tough log or reached the end of a stroke in either direction the detent would kick off.

Then a banjo strap would be needed which was what the owner was trying to avoid.

The selector valve will remain ON once flow to the splitter is selected

I reached a solution to my valve question.
Per @Dave_eng ‘s advice, I removed the old valve and installed a Cross brand selector valve.
I welded up a mount bracket and got the install finished up today.
I found the valve on eBay for a good price. For the supply and return lines, I was able to simply reuse the existing lines and I just needed to tee in the return line from the implement.
I made sure to plumb and install the valve so you have to pull the plunger up to actuate the valve. The “neutral” position is the valve plunger pushed down to eliminate the possibility of the knob accidentally getting hit and dead heading the pump.

It works as intended and best of all, no more bungee cords!(y)

A standard detent does neither of those, it detents into a position and stays there, regardless of pressure or flow. They are covered in the video I posted. Maybe I’m more familiar with them because my hydraulic experience is from an industrial background, and not agricultural.
