There’s an oak in my home town that my former father in law who retired from the forest service said was some type of record for Illinois. I should go by and put a tape around it. He’s no longer with us so I can’t ask for specifics and I don’t recall.
My brother in law had 4 oaks in his yard that he had cut down. They all measured across 7ft across once they were cut. I thought he was crazy but they were rotten in the middle. Luckily, we had a major storm a week later. Almost all large trees in our area came down, blown over and up rooted. Two of them would have landed on his house.
