I was born and raised on a small dairy farm. Many generations of lineage.

Family sold the cows when I was a young man. Property sold several years later. None of that 550 acres is in production agriculture anymore...

Several years ago, I posted here that I had heard the "So God Made a Farmer" verse.

Never heard it before. Didn't know its origination, etc.

Several OTT members gave me the source, etc. Some of them are farmers today.

Paul Harvey's speech to the FFA, Kansas City, Missouri, November 1978.

Just heard it again on RFDTV Classic Tractor Fever.

Powerful message. If anyone hasn't heard it, they need to.

While no longer a farmer, I remember those guys well. I live in another nearby rural/agricultural area, and share my community with those guys today.

We need God to keep making farmers.....and thank the ones we have.(y)

(I wish I was smart enough to link an audio of it, but alas..... )

I grew up on a ranch in Colorado, rode fence all summer and half the time over the fall winter and spring.
The ranch has long gone to track homes and a golf course, all the range land has gone to Ski resorts and an airport.

skeets - my area is a lot of dairy. many have folded up just like my family did years ago.

A lot of it is government regulation, but in the dairy industry milk pricing is really an oddity.

From my understanding, the Secretary of Agriculture could in fact fix some of the Farmers’ problems with the price they receive. The

government is reluctant to do so. I don’t know why.

Political I’m sure, but it’s happened when both the Elephants and Jackasses have controlled Washington…..🤔

I don’t know enough about it to say what’s right or wrong.

When we can’t buy milk or cheese we’ll all complain…..😳

When I was a kid my Grandfather was always ready to talk fishing, fighting and f,,,,,, unless it was time for Paul Harvey's broadcast. I realized Mr Harvey must be special at the time but it wasn't until I was an adult I realized the significance of Granddad listening that closely to a man less than half his age. THIS BROADCAST sounds like it could have been last week instead of over half a century ago but he did it in 1965. IMO it almost puts him in the category of prophet.

I took the Strong-Campbell test when I was approx 14 or 15 YO. It told me to be either a Farmer or a Mechanic. I suppose that test was correct. I had done both from about 13 to 25 YO.

What it didn't tell me was that in order to be a Farmer, you HAD TO BE A MECHANIC. Sh!t broke every day.

Learned a lot about hard work and life in general. God bless farmers.

Here you go ... I miss Paul Harvey!

Just last winter I went to one of my MIL last cousins funeral and they played the Paul Harvey speech. There is a high school complex and track housing on his old farms. We have the city knocking on our door on our home place here. I am a first generation farmer. Grew up around farmers my folks had a truck stop, fuel business and hauled livestock when my dad was alive. Had a chance to buy a 160 acres when I was 20 bought it started farming and worked in town at nights for years on trucks and reefer units. Over the years I kept buying farms and renting ground. Had cow calf operation also until I had heart failure twenty years ago. Got out of cows then. Now days I am just farming for fun or at least that what I tell the younger guys that wish I would quiet. Some body always wants your ground. Have two good friends that like some extra cash and help in the spring and fall. Without them I would probably quiet farming and rent of sell my ground. Help in my area is hard to come by.
