I need oil in my snowblower gear box and cannot make it to a Kubota dealer. I have an L&M Supply near me that has the 80W90 oil that the Kubota manual calls for, but the manual also mentions AGMA SEP which is extreme pressure oil. When I check the L&M site it only says that the oil is 80W90. Is it OK to use that oil as a replacement for the Kubota version or does this extreme pressure require that I only use the Kubota oil?

There are other brands which offer extreme pressure gear oil - kubota is not the only vendor. Read the specifications for the various oils L & M offers.

Apparently all of the 80w90 gear lube is so called extreme pressure it goes in a gear box I put napa premium in mine and no problem

I did a quick search and, as stated, it does seem all are formulated for this use.
Valvoline, Mobil1, Amazon brand, Master Pro to name a few.

You need a GL4 gear oil since the GL5 gear oil is known to attack the yellow metals, more commonly known as brass. GL4 is safe for brass. If you have an older car with a brass synchronizer you would be aware of this.

Thank you and all others for your prompt reply. I called my local Napa dealer and they do have extreme pressure 80w90 gear oil so I am going with that.

I used the Amzoil extreme duty 80-90w that L&M has in stock. Not cheap, $20.00 for the bottle. Drained the OEM after the first year and put this in. No problems yet. I see you are from around Bigfork, which way. I’m about 20 miles east, on Napoleon Lake.

I'm about 150 miles northwest of you in SE Manitoba, and we have very similar equipment!

I see that many of you are disregarding the fact that the gearboxes of snowblowers use brass gears, and GL 5 isn't good for the brass. Don't want to believe me, then read this and then decide for yourself if you want to risk damaging your gearbox. If you don't want to read the whole page, then just skip down to "Which one is better".

I used Amsoil Marine gear lube 75W90 because thats what I had, also thought it might be good if any moisture gets by a seal.

My research tells me that this is only a concern at higher than 150 deg f where some of the EP additives might react with soft metals such as brass. The gear box on my blower stays cool after clearing my 4000 ft. driveway. This is certainly something to be aware of with gear drives though.
