ive noticed that my l2250 smokes on cold weather startup until it gets warm. is this normal? no black smoke just grey
Very normal - do you glow your plugs for a couple of seconds? As long as it clears up in 5 or so seconds - You may find a little longer glow time will cut the smoke back a bit.

Yeah a bit of smoke initially is normal but it shouldn't last for more than a few seconds.

White or gray smoke generally indicate a cold engine. As it warms a bit the smoke should go away.

Well - several ways, but one is fairly quick.

Take your volt-ohm meter, set to OHMS.
Set for lowest OHN setting
Take the top connection off each glow plug
Place either lead on top and the other on a good ground or battery NEG post
Read meter -
should be very close to ONE OHM - like .9 or in that range.
If you have a infinite reading - that plug is bad, or if you have a very high reading it is bad.

Mine usually smokes for about 2-3 seconds after starting and then goes away. Hopefully that is normal as stated above by others that know way more than me.

My l2501, with 72 hours always puffs when it starts, since new, usually I don't use the glow plugs unless it was in the 50s or 60s the night before.. my bx2670 with 564 hours seems to smoke alot less when starting, and needs 10 seconds of glow plugs to start quick or it cranks for 4 to 6 seconds before starting.

south Florida is usually hot and humid
