I have the standard blades on the x310 from when I purchased it, but was going to put the mulch kit and gator blades on in the Spring when I replace the blades for the 1st time.

if you want a better cut, go with the gator blades. They do a nice job of cutting up the discharge & help the deck act more like a mulcher. One thing to think about with a larger deck will be it can trim closer than the narrow deck, but as said above check clearances between trees so not a lot of trimming. I don't see it as overkill at all, and think of it as future proof against moving to a larger lot.

Is there usually a big disparity in pricing among dealerships in a similar region? I've gotten a couple of quotes for a BX1870-1 with FEL, 48" Fine Cut mower deck, and 54" front blade and quick hitch. One came in at $12.5k and the other was over $15k.

They are looking into what my x310 is worth. I still owe some money on it from when I financed through John Deere, so if they can give me what I owe plus a little more, I'd be comfortable trading it in and going to the BX. We'll sit back and see how this plays out!

I had a 54" deck on my JD425, and went with a "regular" 54 on my BX2360.

The 54 will get you closer to your trees and shrubs. The 48 will be just outside your tire path, and make it tougher to get closer, even taking the height/width of the ROPS out of the equation. Just a thought.......

I know you 'Jersey subdivision guys are protective of your turf/finish cut, etc.:p, but my regular deck mows as smooth as my JD, if not better! Trick, of course, is sharp blades.

I think there are some disparities in what a dealership will try to get....what they can sell for is another story...

Good luck!!

Thanks for the input! I really need to get to the dealer to check these out. It just seems like a big jump going from a 42" deck on the x310 to a 54" deck on the BX1870. However, I realize that's only really 6" per side. That also means I will be done the job that much sooner, which I'm not convinced will be a good thing:)

It looks like the fine cut version is only another $150 or so. I am curious to know if there is a noticeable difference between the two. I've really been putting the time and effort into my lawn this year.

Use the search function on the forum for "fine cut," "48 MMM" etc.

Seems like someone was on similar mission earlier this year.

Yes, I pretty much went through all of the existing forums on here for the 1870 and 2370. I searched for the fine cut, but wasn't getting much returned as results.
