Hi-

I noticed yesterday that I had a very small amount of coolant leaking out of the upper water house, where it goes into the engine (at the thermostat?). I wiped up the coolant, tightened the clamp a bit, and let it sit overnight. I checked this morning and no leak. When I fired the tractor up just now I saw some coolant come out of the hose at the same spot. I have a new hose and clamps coming on Friday...thinking that maybe the hose is worn enough that the clamp may not be doing its job fully. May be overkill but the hose and clamps are less than $15.

Since this is a pressurized system, would excess coolant do cause this type of leak?

I had a similar issue on my L. I never seen the leak but I could smell coolant while it was running. Also could see the white residue at the thermostat housing. I ended up tightening the clamp and ordered new hoses (they are still in the bag in the back seat of my work car). Havent noticed the smell and level hasnt dropped.

I would pull the hose off the thermostat housing and make sure the outlet isn’t corroded. What I questioned with mine, but haven’t gotten to it.

Excess coolant would not cause the leak. You may have some galvanic corrosion between the housing and the hose. Just make sure it's clean when you install the new hose, then check for cracks. I usually install with a dab of paste tire lube to prevent further corrosion.

When you replace the hose also check the thermostat housing that the hose connects to for a crack.
While you're in there, consider replacing the thermostat gasket to cover all the bases.

Yea, I was thinking of doing that. Just need to order the parts. The local dealer is kind of hit or miss in terms of parts for older model BX’s. I think they stock if the part is compatible with newer tractors.
