I've been watching what has been going on with this forum since I bought my new orange tractor a week ago and figured that it is now time to join the community. The tractor is not new, it is a late '80's B4200 with 1400 hours. It's in good shape and runs really well, has a belly mower (trying to piece it together) and a FEL. My wife and I finally killed our lawn tractor, probably because we were moving firewood with it, and figured that we ought to have something stout enough to handle such tasks. A new lawn tractor stout enough to handle what we were looking to do was going to cost the same or more than what we payed for this and who knows how long it would actually last. The Mrs. is into horses and really wanted a FEL, but the primary task is to mow the lawn and we do not have a large enough lawn to justify anything bigger than the smallest tractor we could find that would mount a FEL, so here we are. We were looking at newer BX's with hydrostatic drives, but they kept slipping through our fingers until we found this one. It's geared, but we're really liking it so far, and we saved a couple of thousand dollars over a hydrostat. Any pointers, advice or things to look out for on this little tractor would be very much appreciated.
Regards,
Adam.

Welcome !

When I buy used stuff, first I make service. Change the oil&filter of the engine and maybe also gearbox because it is also the hydraulik-oil. When I did it on my one with 950h on the clock, the oil was very very dirty. Checking also the lubrication at all possible places. Don't forget the airfilter and cooling-water. If the rubber of the cooling system is brittle, should be changed to prevent unpredictable stops. Also the belt.

And maybe this helps: http://www.orangetractortalks.com/forums/showthread.php?t=230&page=2

Have fun
