Every regen leaves behind a small amount of ash which builds up in the DPF eventually plugging it. The larger ones can be cleaned but that requires disassembly and then cleaning at a approved facility. I'm not saying to never buy a DPF equipped tractor but if a smaller machine without a dpf will do the job for you why put yourself through the added expense?
'Approved facility' is a 20K plus vacuum cleaner that extracts the burned ash and then it has to be landfilled in an 'approved' hazardous waste facility, again, not a trash bag and the 'filter' has to pass a specific inspection process as well to be viable for reuse.

No shop vac's allowed and no hefty bags either.....:p

Conversely, a larger, well maintained machine with proper maintenance documentation is also very viable and why pre Tier 4 units are in demand and hold their resale value extremely well.

Why I keep both of mine, really for no other reason. Love to have a new machine (not the payment book) but not gonna happen.

When I sold my 105X last year, I got top buck for it, no questions asked. It lasted less than a week.

If you can manage with a tractor under 28hp it will be much simpler and much cheaper to maintain in the long run because it won't have the complication of all the DPF and other emission control devices the higher HP tractors have
For our uses we have to have a heavier and more powerful tractor than a 25hp unit. I guess we will deal with the DPF in 20 years or so, although we usually replace things once they are 10 years old anyway
