am i the only one to have problems getting on and of this L1500/L175
tractor. i figured it was just a mater of time before i sliped or triped
and broke some bones. sooo today while i,m waiting for a rad i took 2 in
of the pto and gear levers. i shortened the knob on the pto and drilled it almost through and drilled through and tapped the gear knob all the way through. i allso took 3/4 in of the gear knob. what a differance getiing
on and off. time will tell if this was a mistake or not.

That's a great idea. On my B8200 I'm occasionally grinding the gears by getting on and off of it while it's running. My only concern would it be worth the hassle of reaching a little farther to change gears? Let us know how it works out for you.

Louis, GREAT IDEA. My L2500DT has the some problem along with the 2x4,4x4 lever, which I need to swing 90 degrees. Thanks for the simple solution ! Bill

Louis,

I never really thought about it, but I can't see where shortening the shifters would cause any problems.

When I was a kid we had a 9N Ford with a loader on it, that was an adventure to get on.

Climbing up the back of an Allis Chalmers WD isn't a whole lot of fun either. Now I have to think every time get on the L175, "go to the side of the tractor."

I did that with the 3 point lift lever on my L3400, when in was not even a week old. The lever was so darn long, that if it was flat on top it could be used as an arm rest!! The way I did mine, since I do not have a welder, is Cut the lever off about half way, overlapped them about 2 inches, marked and drilled 2 holes, and bolted it back together with 1/4 inch bolts and lock nuts.
I find this to be much more comfortable for me!!

update on the shortened gear shifter lever. it shifts just as easy as before
and a peice of cake to get on and off. just got done pushing snow and we are getting snow fo the next 5 days. now the pto lever, it,s quite a bit more
power needed to put it gear. the real problem is stoping the lever in neutral
when taking it out. it wants to go from 1 to 2 without stoping . the detents
are deaper and more positive. i don,t need the pto in the winter but next
summer i will make a telescopic retractable lever for it. the new rad is working
nice. the rad temp is at 170 deg F working it wide open. the snowblade
needs to be twice as tall. haven,t lost any tire studs yet. life is good. :D

i fixed the PTO lever today. i made a slideing extention out of an old gun
barrel. milled a slot in it, welded a ball bearing on the end. i installed it
with the slot down for obvious reasons and ther is a spring and washer
and a drop of locktite on the bolt. it shifts fine now. i have the slot up for
pic.

I would like to shorten the pto lever, often I bump it unexpectedly.
The low/neutral/high lever on the left side gets in the way as well.
The 4 layers of clothing makes on/off cumbersome.

I bumped it into neutral the other day at the left lever.
Took me awhile to figure iut the problem as I rarely use that lever.

Good to hear about not losing tire studs.
I'm sure I will repair a few tires this year.
New chains are working awesome!
