If the tooth is welded on, what is the next most likely failure point, and will it cost more to fix than a tooth?

On my Bush Hog box blade all the shank tips are welded on from the OEM.

The tips are made to be replaceable hence the divot in the side of the shank and the side of the tip hammered into that divot. It's purpose is not as a breakaway device. If they are welded on it will be more difficult to replace when needed.

Food for thought....

EA Attachments now sales a solid shank made of hardox so what you would be doing is really no different than what they offer.
