Just bought the land pride tiller and I can't get the shaft to go on the PTO, it has the push button type release and I have cleaned it and oiled it. It goes on about 1" till it hits the bar connected to the button, I push the button and it just won't go on at all.

Suggestions?

Thanks in advance

The lock pin may be rotated such that the notch doesn’t line up. Look inside the driveshaft coupling and push the button to see if the notch on the pin is in the right spot. If not you can spin it with some pliers.

Happens to me all the time on my bush hog.

Some pictures of the problem would help.

There have been many times before that I have been sure that the splines were lined up perfectly but it would not slide on. Then I turn the PTO shaft some more and then it goes on.

I found the issue, there was paint in the pin from the factory, I used a screwdriver cleared out the paint and worked it a few times (about 100) and now it works. The paint was stopping it from depressing all the way, it was stopping about 1/32" short.
