Can you tell us what the background on this engine is? DID you take it apart? AND how many times did you turn the engine around? Did you turn it a full 360?

my b6200d i purchased had a issue with a flat washer the size of quarter getting into the intake and bouncing around until it would let me crank the engine to purge the fuel to the injectors. after pulling the head and noticing a crack on top of the number one piston i pulled the tractor apart with help of my neighbor bob and ckecking for damage to the block, crank, and valves. i decided to get a new piston, bearings, thrust flange, seals and valve. took the head to a shop and not a dealership, he reground all valve seats checked for cracked area around the one piston all checked out good. we crosshatched the cylinder walls and put new rings on all three and now have the front of engine all lined up with timing marks. we were wondering how the marks would not line up again while hand cranking the pto shaft. i am not a diesel guy so this engine has been a head scratcher for me , have a shop book very little information on the timing gears and how all this works with the fuel injector pump. you tube has a few information channels but not much for this older engine d-850. ok thanks for the reply . pa- sf

If you turn it enough times they will line baca up. But that may be a lot more times than you care to rotate the engine.

It may be less rotations going in the reverse rotation.

You can calculate the ratios between the central gear and the outer gears to see how many rotations it would take if you care to count the teeth on each gear and do some ratio calculations.

Why do you care to get it back to the starting point?

The easy thing to do is take the idler gear off and line all the marks up. It could take you up to 70 turns to get them lined up. Good luck.

ok thanks for the heads up on the timing of the gears for my rebuild . now i will be installing the oil pan and hooking the fuel injection pump which i had repaired for 546 bucks ouch ! total around 1500 bucks for just parts . i am learning the hard way as do-it- yourselfer . so when i get the fuel pump in and the 3shims that go down first do you use the gasket seal anaroebic gasket sealer? or just snug them down
