What model is it? Might give you a little wrong info W/O the correct "L"

L3710?
L3901?
L3800?
L3600?

All of them have a slightly different hydraulic amounts.

Get the OPS (owners) manual
and the WSM (service manual)

It has all the devices and locations to service it spelled out.

Whatever you do, make sure you have n adequate drain pan. When you pull that plug, it's like an oil well gusher coming out. Those Autozone pans won't hold all the fluid so if you do it on concrete, could be quite a mess.

I use a cut in 1/2 aluminum diesel fuel tank off a big truck.

The Operator Manual for the L3800 is part no. TC420-1971-2.

Capacities vary with manual 2wd, manual 4wd, and hst.

4wd will have front axle case fluid.

Look on page 67 to see the magnetic filter you don't want to lose or throw away.

My L4600 gear drive is every 400 hours, yours should me close to that.

As others have suggested try and get your hands on a manual and it will offer much useful information.

I tell people to get the OPS and WSM for just occasions like this, as they have the service intervals spelled out in it.
It will also give you directions specific to your model to grease points and drain point and a ton of other useful information.

If you can fit a five gallon bucket underneath, that certainly helps. I pulled my rtv up on ramps then lifted the back with a jack, just to fit the bucket. My tractor seems high enough, lots of hyd fluid, a normal drain pan just doesn't cut it.

I use a large plastic storage bin as the drain pan. You will need the fluid capacity specs for your machine, but plan on at least 10 gallons of hydraulic fluid to deal with.

Often times when draining fluid, the fluid does not come out as fast as you might imagine because there is not much vent. (Kind of like the frustration of fueling up your lawn mower with those red plastic containers with improper venting.)

On my BobCat skid steer I drained 27 gallon capacity into the oil drain pan I use for auto oil draining. I had two of them, but I was able to put the plug in very easily to switch containers. Just kept switching them back and forth dumping the old oil back into a 5 gallon pail. I had some cardboard and some hay on it waiting for a flood, but I probably didn't have a pint spill total.
