Hi everyone, you all were so helpful last time I had a question, I thought I would turn to you all again as I am about to service my B8200 kubota.

I bought the tractor 2 years ago when it had 808 hrs and regular service, now it has 865 hrs and I have just kept up with the bare minimum. So now I am looking to do a full service. I know very little about these things but am getting help from a more mechanically inclined friend.

I downloaded the owner's manual for guidance and spoke with my local Kubota dealer for recommendations and pricing. Here is what the dealer said I needed:

Oil filter- $12.35
Air filter- $19.90
Transmission oil (UDT)- takes about 19 quarters which would be about $105. she said it was really important to use a good quality oil on this
Engine oil (15Wx40)- $23.04, 1 gallon
Fuel filter- $4.19
Hydraulic filter- is cleanable and reusable

My main questions are:
The owner's manual recommends Shell Rotella 10W-30 engine oil but the deal recommended 15Wx40. Which should I use?

The UDT seems expensive. Does Walmart or Tractor Supply or somewhere sell a good quality oil that is cheaper?

Do the prices on the other items seem reasonable or do you recommend a comparable alternative somewhere else? Or should i just get everything at the dealer? Im a little hesitant b/c i know dealers can be more expensive, but i do want to get good quality products for my tractor.

Any other tips or trick or info i need to know?

Sorry for the lengthy question. Thanks in advance for the replies!!!

All her prices seem reasonable. I'm sure you can get comparable quality at lower prices at TractorSupply or AgriSupply, but you would not be saving a large number of dollars for these parts and supplies. I'd say "support your local sheriff".

On the oil viscosity, I'd listen to your dealer. It doesn't get cold enough for you to need thinner oil to start and warm up your engine; however, it does get hot enough that your engine could benefit from the higher viscosity.

Oils to use: I'm going to put that back on you. I've read a number of threads that deal with tranny and hydro fluids, and the recommendations from those I consider gurus include several, with differing characteristics and prices -- but they are all at the higher end of the price list. So do a search and read up on what others have to say, then choose what strikes you as best. (That being said, my ironclad: go cheap on anything except oil and safety!) (Oh, and UDT is pricey -- that is one purchase you may want to make from another vendor. And your dealer may not even carry the one you choose to go with.)

Oh, man, there is much more info and many tips, but I don't have it/know them. Prolly the gurus will chime in with better stuff.

Glad you're doin' the deed, you'll be an inspiration to me! (Mine has only a few hours since the dealer did a complete service, but I'm not going to be comfortable until I've gone through every part of it.)

Please be sure to use engine oil that is for a diesel - don't get too caught up in the API code in your old books - the oil code gets changed over the years due to increases in the oil quality.

If you have a hydrostatic transmission (I know nothing about your tractor model) use the UDT or UDT2 or the Super UDT and they are reported to be quieter during operation.

I highly recommend using the Kubota brand filters.

Rodeotractor,
With a standard Gear tractor you don't have to use UDT, it's a better fluid, but you will probably not notice any difference over a Universal hydraulic fluid.
Another option if available in your area is Mystik JT5 it is a UDT fluid with a cheaper price tag. ;)
