I have a L2501 HST, it starts fine but after running approx 10 minutes it losses power starts running rough and will eventually stop. Fuel system has been checked, tank full, new filter, checked fuel lines, suspect possible low pressure fuel pump or injector pump. Any ideas?

Did you try taking the fuel tank cap off? Real long shot, but clogged cap breathers will cause the problem you described.

Fuel system has been checked, tank full, new filter,

Filter? Singular? I don't know your machine, but it might have more than one filter. My little BX does. One just before the lift pump and one just before the injection pump. Had a similar problem the other day and changed the first one, still had a problem. Oh, duh, forgot to change both. Solved the problem instantly.

Can't hurt to check.

Smell the fuel in tank to see if it has any gasoline smell at all.

OK found the issue, it was the fuel cap. When I tested the cap earlier I didnt wait long enough to allow the fuel to catch up. Probably need to wait an hour or more. I waited overnight then Cleaned the cap and now it is working normal.

Love reading these threads and learning about problems that I have not had yet but will probably have to deal with someday. Thanks for sharing!

How did you clean the fuel cap? Did you find the vent hole and clear it?

Just curious...as I have never needed to do that but occasionally think I should check my fuel caps just to see where the vent is located. Naturally, I forget to do this after thinking about it...LOL

Hello Henro,

I had a clogged cap problem in the past although I didn't know it until someone (I'll try to remember who) told me to give it a check. Sure enough, it was the problem. Ever since then, I always suggest taking the cap off and see what happens as a first "try it". If the tractor then starts and runs, the cap is plugged.

RCW gets the credit for first mentioning the cap breather issue to me as a long shot possibility. He was right on target that time. Because it is so easy to check, I have been echoing RCW's suggestion as a "first check" for fuel starvation issues ever since.
