As I always understood it.

In extreme environments, a dual filter design is desirable from a longevity view.

If you only had one filter capable of removing the large to fine particles it would clog faster or would need to be much bigger.

By having a porous first filter for the debris, and a smaller second filter for the dust they both last longer and can be much smaller.
Yea, that's not the case here, it's literally just a safety filter, no extra time is added because of it.
In the best of scenarios it should never get dirty or need replaced.

I have them on all my Kubota engines, and in my bobcat it saved the engine from an almost certain death when vibrations using it separated the main filter from the filter housing, which without the safety filter would have let the engine just suck in sand and dust.

Honesty nope, but I don't have 30K new emissions under warranty equipment.

I will and do change them if I have any question on the main filter failure or compromise.

Understand, I only say what I say about the safety filter on the B2650/B3350 because of warranty concerns!

After Warranty Only!

Do I personally think you could go longer on replacement, heck ya, it's a stainless filter and unless you compromise the main filter it won't see any debri.
Do I think you should replace it every year after warranty, nope why waste money.
Do I think you can clean it, heck ya, Brake parts cleaner or Carb cleaner, test on filters during warranty period to find the right one, then let it naturally dry.

Just use a common sense approach to clean filter management! ;)

Well, that’s kinda the way I was thinkin’ also.... the primary/outer filter is the real filter and the secondary/inner filter is there for “safety” incase the outer fails or is damaged.

The part that I question is ...if the outer filter isn’t absolutely nasty...then it can be blown out with compressed air and/or cleaned as instructed.

I can’t imagine why they are so cautious about not removing the inner filter except for replacement. If I can remove it and replace it....(which presumably exposes the machine to the hazards of possible introduction of dirt in the replacement-excersize)... then why is it not kosher to blow out or clean a physically undamaged inner filter and return it to service? After-all, it’s been largely protected by the outer filter and would not ordinarily be subject to physical damage.

MY filters are BOTH fiber or paper elements. All of them. A little dust blows out of the outer and nothing visible blows out of the inner. I’ve gotta see a lot more dirt before I can see replacing them, certainly a chronological/calendar change seems ridiculous.

On both my M9's the outer is a pleated paper (white) filter but the inner filter (the small one) the fits in the recess in the inner air cleaner is blue and looks to be some sort of paper (not stainless) as well. Pulled the receipt for both. The outer was 36 bucks, the inner 18 bucks from my dealer.

I believe both can be crossed as they air cleaner is a Donaldson design. I bet the filters are Donaldson.

I replace the outer after 2 years and multiple blow off's with an air nozzle and the inner every 4 years. remember, I'm operating in a chaff filled enviroment where I have to blow out the rads every day.

Air filters like oil filters are a cheap date compared to what can happen if they fail.

They can be because Donaldson is what I use in mine. I believe the Kubota filters are made by them as well. Look just like the OEM color and all.
