Well here in Ontario, companies ( like repair shops...) can charge whatever they like as an 'environmental fee' , and KEEP the coins !!!!

Although this is a 5 year old thread and I am quite sure the economy is way different than when it was posted, my dealer told me that they could not write a loan thru Kubota finance unless they had the serial number for whatever was being financed.



Could be a load of malarky, but thats what they told me.



Edit: My point was that they can't "lock your price in" by writing up a loan, then order the implement.

It has to already be there, so they can attach a serial number to the loan, for the reasons Jay mentioned below.

That actually makes sense....
Consider you default on the loan, repo guy comes to get equipment back. HE has to be sure he gets the correct unit,otherwise HE can be charged with theft.
At one time I had 4 identical tractors..I'm sure others have 'backups'.....

Just wanted to jump in and add that mandating a cap on interest rates for student loans, coupled with reforms that foster price competition among colleges, could indeed be a pragmatic approach.

You are probably correct.
But when you cap either end of interest rate, it directly affects the other.
I think that being an educated borrower is a better solution.
The market needs to be free to weed out the scoundrels.
When everything is regulated the incentives disappear as well.
