hello people and fellow orange owners I have a friend that has a l5100 series tractor and it has a growling/grinding noise in second gear only without the clutch pushed in. it also does it in low, high and reverse any help would be great thanks oh and the pto and hydraulics still work perfect

Maybe a MX5100? Noise in just one gear is usually broken gear teeth or a bad bearing. Did the noise come on gradually? Or was there an "event"?
I know on my B7100, 2nd gear whines a little, compared to other gears. I have been told that can be expected, since 2nd gear is the most popular gear for the speed it produces. I think this same gear is shared with reverse and the PTO as well, so it gets more use than the other gears, so more wear.
