What is the recommended position for the operator’s seat when a tractor is outside for extended periods?
Should it be tilted up & towards the steering wheel or left down in the operating position?

Hate to leave a tractor in the elements. When I was in that situation, a heavy black plastic bag over the seat and secured was the ticket. When I worked construction, we found black bags were better than clear to lessen the condensation.

Flipped forward over the steering wheel. Always. Every time.

Left in the seated position it gathers the sun and the seat material degrades. In the rain or snow it pools and soaks into the foam once the vinyl cracks.

Not even that; On a hot or raining day do you want to sit in a hot or wet seat?

Thank you for the replies.

My 3430 has been outside year’ round for about the past 10 years and I always flipped the seat. After about 7 years of that I had to replace the “AIS” switch (operator presence) under the seat. I thought that it failed prematurely due to exposure to the elements more so than had the seat been down.

Chim’s recommendation should cover all the bases.

If I leave the tractor for a few minutes and don't tilt the seat up, it will either rain all of a sudden or clouds split and the blistering sun comes out.

Long term though is less about your ass, and more about the seat. Avoid the elements best you can. Trash bag or otherwise.

I fold mine forward and when parked put a plastic tub over the seat and steering wheel to keep it somewhat protected. There have been some that used pickup truck bed liners (discarded for some reason) to hang over the ROPS and hood To make a sort of shed. I park mine under a steel hoop shed with a plastic tarp stretched over the frame.

The tub is something like this. It is also used as a spill guard when changing fluids in the tractor transmission while catching 5 gallon bucket fulls.
