You can use it, but I think any treatment like Diesel Kleen from Power Service will be as good and also provide some nogell/bioside protection if you use the White bottle.

I like Seafoam and use it in my Ford Powerstroke from time to time, but I feel it makes a bigger difference in gasoline engines.

Hi Mike. If you go to Youtube and search on "seafoam in diesel" there are are ton of "YES" and a ton of "NO" as to whether Seafoam actaully works. Personally I don't know, but are you trying to solve some sort of problem with your engine?

I used to use Power Service in my Powerstroke and my Cat engines in my big trucks. Then one time I had two injectors stick in the Powerstroke while I was travelling through Indiana. Ford dealers couldn't get me in, but told me it was safe to drive home, will only run horrible. So I stopped to get fuel and they only had Howes. I put that in and within ten minutes on freeway injectors unstuck and truck ran great.

I've used Howes in everything, ever since.

No problems, just was wondering if it is good to use to avoid any problems down the line.

I used Power Service in the white bottle for over 800 hours in my old Kubota running home heating oil, with never a problem. It always started no matter how cold it was outside, where the tractor lived, so to me, that is a testament to its quality. Other products might be just as good, but I have no experiance with them.

I've used Seafoam products in the past to clean out various gas engines with noticeable great success.

That said, I use the above mentioned Power Service Diesel Kleen mix in my Kubota Fuel.

Before filling my 5 gal containers at the service station, I add a dose of Howe's and 200 ml of ashless 2 stroke oil to each container. Haven't had any issues with the BX23. That said, my elephant whistle on the car works great as well, since I have never run into an elephant.

I do not know why owners leap at any snake oil that claims to be “good” or “better” than what your engine mfr recommends. If Kubota doesn’t say “use SeaFoam” or use “Howes” or etc etc etc…then DON”T. unless, of course you like to take chances and throw money out the exhaust.

Can’t use CLEAN/FRESH fuel because you buy large quantities and store it for a long time…?? Then use a biocide and a preservative (like biobor JF and Stabil). But face the fact that you want. to do good things for your diesel…. and the best thing is Clean/Fresh fuel….and skip the snake oils that aren’t specifically approved by your mfr’r.

You mean the manufacturer engineers that produced the B3350? Those? :D

Seriously though, feel free to think all of these additive products are snake oil. As someone who’s had them “fix or prevent” things that were broken even with clean fresh diesl, I know better.

Yep, a few years back I bought two cans of Justice Brothers transmission additive for a 3/4 ton PU. The man who owned the transmission shop said put two cans in and run the truck for a while. If it doesn't stop the leak bring it back. I sold the truck about 10 years later with no transmission repairs, leaks or problems.

When you have first hand experience with "snake oils" as GeoHorn calls them that work it causes one to loose confidence in those who bitch about them constantly!!

Then there are those of us out here with the pre-emissions stuff which wasn't designed for ULSD. Those who want to protect their pumps and injectors use lubricity additives.

Next winter when you go out to blow snow at -20 Fahrenheit, without having first used some anti-gel in your fuel, let us know how you wished that you had installed some "snake oil" in your fuel.

While we were at the farm Saturday, went around and treated all dad's tractor with STA-BIL Diesel All Season to get them ready for the upcoming winter months. Add it to his 5-gallon fuel cans also. Trying to prevent any problems for him. I think they switch over to winter blend diesel around here in November, but still treat everything we get to try to prevent any gelled fuel. So far, going on year three, it has worked.

Interesting... but he didn't back it up with a lubricity test. Pure methanol will prevent gelling while diluting critical lubricants.

Seasonal-specific diesel contains anti-gel additives already and that is not what is meant by “snake oil” and you knew that. Your post is deliberately inflammatory.

As far as the “lubricity” scare-tactics that some snake-oil salesmen try to frighten you with…. Cummins is a pretty respected diesel engine mfr’r…and they state:

“Will ULSD harm my older engines?
No. Engine manufacturers expect the ULSD fuel to be fully compatible with 2006 and earlier model year vehicles. In some instances, the introduction of ULSD fuel to older vehicles may affect fuel system components or loosen deposits in fuel tanks. As part of a good maintenance program, owners and operators are encouraged to monitor their diesel-powered vehicles closely for potential fuel system leaks or premature fuel filter plugging during the change-over to ULSD fuel.”
