I wish I could send our weather to ya but we need it also. Kids on atv's around town started a lot of grass fires last week which caused a fare amount of damage.

Just talked to one of my neighbors, they ordered mandatory evacuation of ALL the communities in the area, not just the original (4).
Highway 87 is closed northbound at Clint's Well.
A new smaller fire has started near Mormon Lake, which will draw resources from the Tinder fire.
It's not looking good, but I'll keep praying.

Bill, I am sorry to hear about that fire. We will pray for you. I know what you are feeling. My house started on fire from a careless neighbor's fireworks back in 1993. I hope that all turns out well for you.

Tinder Fire; April 29, 2018 Evening Update

Evacuations, Road Closures, and Structures Burned as High Winds Drove Tinder Fire into Local Communities

Acres: estimated 8,000 acres

Significant fire growth occurred today prompted evacuations as high winds drove fire into communities to the north and east today.

Structures were lost. No details are available at this time. The fire remains active in these areas and the priority now is providing for emergency responder and public safety. Coconino County will be assessing damages and providing updates as soon as they are able to do so.

This is currently a wind driven fire. Strong winds will continue through Tuesday.

Tonights night shift will continue to provide structural protection actions in local communities.

An illegal drone incursion was reported this morning north of the fire, within the Temporary Flight Restriction. This temporarily limited firefighting aircraft's ability to work in the area. The incidents aircraft were pulled from the airspace over the air until it was deemed safe to reengage in firefighting activities.

Saw last night that rain is due to the area Tuesday... Probably too late to help with the speed this is moving.

Hope this wasn't started by another firefighter. The state's biggest fire (Rodeo-Chedesky) was started by a lady who was lost -and started a bonfire in a tinder-dry forest to get rescued, and by a firefighter off the reservation who wanted work. The two fires met and burned for almost a month back in the mid '90's.

I don't remember a year where the winds were this high. AZ rarely gets high winds for long but its has been windy almost constantly for the past month. And its been terribly dry with little rain outside of the mountains for months.

They are saving homes up there Bill. Yours will be one of them.

A buddy is a volunteer fireman with a group nearby. He came and did a quick fire walk through on my property. I have been cleaning up around my place, just in case. We are subject to fires up here, even close to town.

Again friends, thanks for your prayers & support, we may have a tiny ray of hope.

We have been receiving reports from some folks who stayed to fight the fire or had animals they couldn't move, or wouldn't leave.
The info is somewhat spotty & a little contradictory, but the consensus seems to be that the north half of the community (unit 8, where my place is) has only lost 1 home. The other half (south, unit 9) has lost 20+ homes.
Again, nothing is confirmed, the fire is still out of control, it's still very windy, and there were hundreds of small spot fires around my place. If it flares in the wrong direction, it still could be disastrous for us.
But I'm more hopeful than I was last night.

Even if we're OK, there are still lots of others with homes in jeopardy.

Ch 10 had some coverage last night that indicated the fire was moving well north of your neighborhood now. The video showed it moving under trees without burning all of the trees. Hope that was the case bordering your area.

-If Bill doesn't answer right away, I reckon he is up there as they release people back into the area. Forecasters call for rain and snow up there today so that may help firefighters. Sad for all. When people think of Arizona, they don't usually think of lush higher altitude forests but that is what that area offers. Gorgeous. But with the lack of rain, its a tinderbox. The news last night said they suspect this fire was man-caused.

9009 acres, Zero containment. They have not allowed anyone to return yet.
Information is slowly beginning to firm up. The fire has run NE partially through and past our subdivision, and is now entering the most northern of the communities. (Mogollon Ranchettes) If the wind keeps it's typical behavior, (from the SW) we are probably somewhat safe. If the wind shifts to the west, we are toast. The fire fighters are firming up the line on the eastern edge of our subdivision, (western edge of the fire) with backburns & dozer lines. The number of homes/buildings lost (unofficially) is about 70.
(UNOFFICIALLY- 25+ in Starlight Ranchettes, 20+ in Clear Creek Pines 8 & 9, 15+ in Ponderosa Pines, and more in Mogollon Ranchettes.)
We remain optimistic, we appear to have dodged the bullet, but the gun is still loaded & may shift aim back to us, so keep us in your thoughts & prayers.
Here are some more pics & maps. 1st map was hand drawn by a Hotshot crewman near the peak of the fire. 2nd is the entrance to CCP 8&9, 3rd shows how close the main body of the fire came to my place.
