It's a scam
Hey I have exactly what your looking for email at Blaw blaw blaw @ mail.com
and they ask for money to be sent an odd way.
It's a scam
If they start a communication with you and they have 0 on their post count or they just opened their account on that day.
99% it's a scam.
If someone sends you a picture of a part, ask politely for them to send you a different angle of that part, if they cant or won't.
It's a scam

I am fielding about 2 scammers a week so it's pretty active.
If you need to vet someone send me a PM and forward me the message they sent you and I can tell you in seconds if they are a scammer or not.
Report scammers as they need to be eliminated as quickly as possible.

Yup...
I consider myself pretty savvy in my old age.
Got scammed for $600 last Summer.
Not here on OTT though!

I trust little anymore!

Something I have seen that helps is requiring all Sale posts have a photo of the part/machine in question with a dated photo and username on a sheet of wrinkled paper to avoid photoshops.

It's extra work (which scammers usually hate!) and you can see what you'd be getting.

Just a thought.

That would be great if it was a poster doing the scamming but its not, it's scammers replying to a post for a member wanting a part.

This one is tricky as he comments about another (ledfoot2) ( Which has nothing to do with the scam ).
They typically us another member that is inactive to back up their clams of "honesty".
You're not emailing that member, your emailing the scammer.

Don't blame the member they quote ( they are being used too ) and don't fall for it.

If you have emailed the scammer, even if it's by accident or to tell him to go "fly a kite" and you have a Gmail account, Immediately change your Gmail password as that is part of the scam that they will use your email to do more scams.
And if you signed up to OTT with that Gmail and that password change it too!
Several members over the years have gotten their OTT accounts hacked.

You guys should count your blessings. My wife rarely calls me. I feel unloved.
Unless the SHTF, then she calls. And then, I ignore the call of I"m too busy.

Because what my wife considers an emergency, is standard stuff.

Like: "Honey, we need "Blue Cheese Dressing this Friday. The Jones are coming over".
