I need some advice from you really smart people in here,,, My internet sucks to say the least and the cable company provider is really mucking up the tv listings as well. So my question is as follows,,,, Does anyone have a satellite dish that provides service for both Tv and Internet?
How is the signal for internet, tv channels, cost? The OL is chipping about a dish (again) we had one for TV but they didn’t support internet service) saying that it would cost less than what we are paying now. I know when it stormed the dish was kind of messed up some times and I assume that the inter net would be as well. So does anyone know anything about this?

For what it worth I have satellite internet and satellite TV. I would avoid satellite internet if I could as it really has a high latency which means you click on something and wait a few seconds for the command to go up 27,000 miles to the satellite and back to the earth station and then back up and down to my desk. Since satellite is the only game where I live with it.

Early evening is the worst time of day for satellite internet as everyone is on the internet and the speeds slow down a lot so you will never get the speeds that are advertised. There is also the fair access policy and how much you can download and this is not fun when you go over limits. The weather can also play havoc on getting internet as a good rain storm is going to knock you out for a while.

For TV satellite is fine and either Dish or Direct are fine as latency is not as much of a issue and weather does not have a really big effect as much as snow on the dish outside. I have over the years had to knock the snow off both dishes to get the services back up.

Prices are $79.00 for the satellite internet on the "Pro Package" from Wildblue and $49.00 for the TV from Direct.

There also is no way around having 2 dishes one for the internet and the other for TV as the Satellites are in 2 different positions and the dishes have to pointed at the satellites. The internet satellite dish also has to be pointed precisely or no internet. I have been lucky since I have had the satellite internet as the original techs were really good at getting it pointed really well and they also did a great job of mounting it on the pole. They did not mount it on the house and it makes it a lot more serviceable.

Since satellite is the only game for me I will wait but doubt it will be any time soon for us to get Cable and when it does come I will be one happy soul to dump the satellites in a New York minute.
