I am having to move for a new job, and will be in an apartment until the right house is available at the new location.

I just got a tractor setup 2 years ago. It is a Kubota BX2370 with loader, MMM, grass catcher, and snow blower.

I also have a land pride 50" tiller for the 3 point.

All the Kubota equipment was $21,875 new and the tiller was $1800 new.

I can sell it back to the dealer for $13,500 for everything. They think I could resell it for ~$16,700.

I could store it for the unknown amount of time until we get a new house, and it is not guaranteed to work well for whatever house we get into. It will probably cost about $150/month to store it in a self storage place.

Any thoughts anyone has about this would be appreciated! Should I store/sell, any ideas for cheaper way to store it, etc?

Thanks,
John Vickers

If/when you buy a new house - you dont think you could use it there? If not - that would be a shame. The rent for a year, $1800 - seems like a lot of money to store just the machine - I would hope you would have other stuff to place in the storage unit, with that thinking, the cost of ownership sitting idle would not be to awful bad.

If you are sure you would not use it, store temporarily at a friend's house- with a price on it via craigslist or whatever, for that machine in your part of the world, I would think you could get everybit of the $17k. Then cut your friend in on a small "storage" fee if/when sold!!!!

Unless you are hard up for the $$$$ - I would NOT sell it back to the dealer!

However - situations call for desperate measures - do what you have to do!

Dumb question - how far away are you moving?

We will definitely want to end up at a place where a small tractor would be needed for snow removal. There is a possibility we would end up at a place where a B series would be better than a BX, but that is completely unknown at this point.

The townhouse we are looking to rent would have enough space for everything but the tractor, and there is no garage to put it and the implements in.

The horrible part of all of this is I only need to move about 100 miles away. Far enough a commute is out of the question, but close enough to really hurt in having to sell the house in the winter on short notice.

I don't have any friends that have garage space to put it in, it would have to sit outside, which I don't like.

I would be interested in other storage options..

Thanks,
John Vickers

I have the perfect solution for you..
I am currently shopping for a new B-series and I won't be purchasing unit next spring..so, you could leave your bx at my place with the keys in it and I won't charge you any storage fees!

honestly...... not a bad idea.

Was going to actually mention you might check with other OTT members and see if you can barter up some rent or find much cheaper rent in one a barn if they have space. Example... you will do all or part of their mow or?? every month in barter for storage orrr???

Maybe a local church or private school orr?? could use a barter for doing say their Parking lot snow plowing in exchange for storage?
