Does anyone know what oil is installed in the Front Axle from the factory in an L2501? Is it OK to mix SAE 80w-90 and UDT-2? Thanks for all the help.

Mine was low from the factory, so I pumped UDT2 into until is spewed out.

I don't recall smelling 80/90 when i checked it, and I usually can pick that stuff out from 200 yards away.

If it was 80/90 then mine is mixed.

😄...that's my post he referred to.

After posting my question, I just changed my front axle oil with Kubota 80/90. You should NOT mix oils. You should be able to tell what you have in there because gear oil has that "distinctive" smell! LOL

It get shipped with UDT-2, I prefer gear oil for warmer climates...

I changed my front axle oil at 50 hours, since it was low by about 3 quarts (back then, 2005, lots of front axles oil levels were not checked at the dealer level - and were on the low side from the factory).

Gear oil is less prone to leakage vs. UDT-2 - Messick did a video of that and they even refill with Gear oil.

You should NOT mix oils.
Respectfully: Who told you that?

If you want a synthetic blend. Buy 75% or 80% dino and 20% or 25% Synthetic. Or Syn blend if you can find it.

My ford F 250 manual says synthetic blend. You shouldn't mix oils?

I put in the Kubota UDT-2 to top off my front axle. Because that's probably what the dealer used and it's what I have in the shop. But 80 - 90 weight gear oil is what I would have used if I had that on hand.

It's not a racing snail.

UDT-2

Yes... in the front axle or any non hydrostatic gear case.

My manual says either. It does not say "don't mix oils" for the front axle. To me if it was an issue they would state as such.

Mixing UTTO and SAE 80W90 gear oil will do nothing more exciting than produce an oil with an in between viscosity and EP content. Mixing brands of the same type is even less exciting.
