My newly acquired L275 (1983 Vintage) has gritty solids and rust in the diesel tank. The tank is metal, bottom half seems to have a couple of fiberglass patches on outside. It does not leak.
I will be removing the tank and cleaning it out. I want to kill the rust.

QUESTION, Can I use Ospho inside the tank?
If not, please recommend a procedure/tank sealer /liquid liner to use.

Thank you,
Robert

Take a look at this thread...
It can be done but requires extreme cleaning due to the waxes in diesel fuel.

I just sent an email to Ospho asking about using it inside a diesel tank. Let’s see if they reply in the next few days.....

I’ve used the stuff many times, just never in a fuel tank.

Robert, don't know about using the Ospho inside the tank, but I've use it many times. I'd guess if you let it set a couple of days it will be totally cured out. But you'll hear from mfg. and get their opinion.

I'd get a strong magnet, tie it to a wire (or string) and work it around in the tank. That will pick up any rust particles and keep them out of your fuel filter. I've actually taken a magnet and tied it with baling twine and bring the string up through the fuel lid, and screw the lid on. After a bit of use and juggling around while using the tractor you'll eventually get all loose material out.

OK OSPHO REPLIED TO MY QUESTION
They mention a gasoline tank, but I’ll assume it is OK for diesel too
Here is their reply *********

Robert,

Ospho can be used inside a gasoline tank. You want to apply enough of the Ospho to the inside of the tank so that you can ‘slush’ it around. Leave the Ospho in the tank for 30 minutes, slush every 10 minutes, drain tank, Let stand for 24 hours. Then apply a small amount of gasoline to the tank. Slush it around to remove any powdering or residue left behind. After that you can mount your tank and insert gasoline. Ospho will not affect your fuel system or filters.
