I used the big box store equivalent, Rustoleum maybe?, on my riding mower deck and never got around to painting it. It's held up fine.
Nope!
Rustoleum is not "equivalent" to OSPHO.
OSPHO combines with surface rust, and acts as a primer.
Paint is needed over OSPHO, to properly protect the metal.

May not have been Rustoleum brand, but it was a rust converter, not paint. I'll probably get Ospho brand next time.
