RTV battery issues

Howdy y’all, I have a 2017 RTV x900 that’s draining the battery dead unless I disconnect the battery. I can charge it and drive around but once it’s shut down it’ll die overnight.

The battery is brand new and reads 14 volts while running and 12.7 volts while resting.

Anyone else experience this? Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Ray

I imagine you’ve checked all accessories and lights and determined they’re all OFF, and you’re turning your key off. Are there any after-market accessories installed? If so, are they connected DOWNSTREAM/AFTER the battery solenoid?

Everything is off and no aftermarket parts installed, and nothing connected downstream

Measure the amp draw with everything off to confirm something is draining the battery.

Once the current draw is established, try pulling out each fuse (including the slow burn fuses) to help isolate which circuit(s). Once identified you should be able to determine if it is the device or faulty wiring.

A wiring diagram will also be helpful.

Will do, I found an article on how to find a parasitic draw in your vehicle that I’m going to give a try once it warms up a bit...

I installed a voltmeter a few years back on mine, and noticed when i would turn off the key, the voltmeter would stay energized sometimes and turn off sometimes. Checking it out, it's like there were two detents, or off positions, or maybe just not completely turning the key off. It's hard explain, but I would of never realized that condition, cause nothing else would be on, no dash lights, accessory items like if the key was on but not started. Maybe yours is doing the same, try making sure the key is fully turned off. Now when I turn mine off I always check the voltmeter to insure it is in fact off. Hope yours is an easy fix.

Thanks for reporting back what you found.

Are you going to replace alternator or replace diodes?

Not uncommon.

I did one recently; drains battery in 2 or 3 days. Found the starter pulling juice out of the battery while sitting. First time I've seen that.

If the alternator gets 'muddy', it'll then drain the electrons out of the battery.

You could wash the alternator( garden hose) then blow compressed into it to dry off. I did this evertime I went offroad with CJ-5....never needed to replace alternator.
