I'm going to purchase a Land Pride tiller and need some advice on which tiller to buy. One dealer says both the RTR1250 and RTR0550 ( both w/ slip clutch) are the same price (quoted $2050) and recommends the RTR1250 since "it's more bang for the buck" and he "sells alot of them for the BXs and they work well." I contacted another dealer, and he gave similar price quotes, but recommended the RT0550, saying the RTR1250 is just "physically to large for the BX2360". He also said "the arms on the back are not long enough to keep it (the 1250) out of the tires, and the PTO won't be long enough to have proper overlap." Are any of these claims true?

The 1250 is about 400 lbs and the 0550 is about 300 lbs. The manual says the maximum weight for a tiller implement is 375 lbs for the BX2360, but I'm guessing this is to prevent the front wheels from lifting off the ground, not because the rear lower link can't lift the extra weight (1210 lbs capacity). I figure tilling with the loader on would counter this. Other main difference is the rotor swing diameter- 15" for 1250 and 13" for 0550.

I'm worried the RTR1250 will be too large for the BX2360 and might have trouble pulling it thru the dirt. I also wonder if the 1250 will be harder on the PTO? At the same time, the heavier tiller might indicate that it's more durable (the warranty on the 1250 gearbox is 3 years, compared to the 0550's 2 years) Any advice would be appreciated.

I'd say carry your BX either one of the dealers, perhaps the second one who sounds a little more honest. Hook up both tillers and try them each out and get the feel for them and see in your own opinion which one is better suited for your needs. The dealer might happen to have a play ground area somewhere at the back of their lot where you can try out different toys and see how the feel.

I run a RTA1250 on a BX 25 with no problems. Plenty of tractor power and with the loader on the front, no problems lifting or lowering the heaver tiller. Most tilling done in 2wd.

Most of the equipment designed for sub compact tractors seems too small to me. I run a RTR1250 with my BX25, and it works great...bigger, heavier, stronger.
