Roundup active ingredient change

I had heard things over the last couple years leading me to believe I'd stop seeing Roundup on the shelves before long. Well, apparently instead of it just going away, they quietly changed the active ingredient from glyphosate to triclopyr, in the residential product.

Wish I'd noticed before using around established trees etc where glyphosate would have been much less impactful. Not that I'm under any illusion that Monsanto's claims about soil contact are gospel, but I've been using where triclopyr is clearly ill-advised.

Anyway, maybe I'm late to the party, but I hope this helps someone.

Thanks for the heads up!!! I too, I guess, am late to the party!!! {Edit} IF that is the case....

Although, I still have 25 gallons left over of the original concentrations from when I was actively into chemical spraying. A life time (??) supply, I'm guessing!?!?

{Edit} Are you sure you were using "RoundUp" and not another chemical? Can you post a photo of the Label????

That doesnt make a lot of sense from an agricultural veiwpoint. The whole thing about using glyphosphates was that they had bred genes into crop plants to be resistant to the glyphosphate. I havnt heard that they have bred other resistances into those crops as well. But theres a lot I dont hear about.

Apparently it's just the residential variety that changed, and the commercial still contains glyphosate for "roundup-ready" crops.

So people can still get their RDA of glyphosate...

Is this a roundabout way of suggesting people read and follow instructions on containers? If so I 100% agree. Thousands of trees and other landscape plants are killed annually by indiscriminate use of "weed-n-feed. Twice as many are killed by haphazard spraying.

LibertyLink crops (many different ones) and Dicamba-tolerant soybeans (which was to be used to control glyphosate-tolerant weeds).

Libertylink was BASF competing against Monsanto (until they bought them...) Liberty herbicide is not interchangeable with RoundUp (each will kill the other's crop but some varieties will contain both genes), Depends on which weeds you need to kill will dictate which system you need to use....

I heard about this happening (here in CA they were all screaming that users are killing the world and we are evil for not caring about babies or something). I heard that because of that class action suit part of the deal was to change the formula for casual users.

I promptly went around and stocked up…pretty sure I have a lifetime supply at this point.

I def have a blue version in my possession with glyphosate (and have seen an identical blue version with triclopyr on the shelf).

KillAll has 3X the glyphosate as standard weed killers. I just keep KillAll and dilute as necessary.

Don't buy roundup I always go for the generic as it is the same chemical but much cheaper
