No, actually I was trying to see what the plant was. It sure looks to me like it would be worth a try after reading what others say about getting rid of it.
I had a similar experience with cattails. Didn't want to spray chemicals on top of the water. I even tried to dig then out of a pond with a backhoe. All I got was big globs of clay filled with roots just the size of the bucket. It was a mess!!
I discovered on the internet if cattails are cut off just below the water level they smother and die. We cut them off aboat 6" below water (by hand, one by one). A few popped back up, we snipped them off, and now 5-6 years later we have no cattails in the pond.
