I just learned how to take the back hoe off my. BX 25.. Then I installed a new 3 point hitch. Then I installed my new RCR1548 Land Pride rotary cutter. Now I need to move and spread some gravel to level a section of my driveway for my travel trailer to sit on. I understand I need some rear ballast, so as not to make the tractor front bucket heavy. I do not want to take the 3 point off and re install the backhoe, then re install the 3 point to re install the rotary cutter. What can I use a rear weight ? It might be a little tough going but could I leave the rotary cutter on and raise it up to use it as rear weight ? I really do not want to fill my rear tires, just looking for some easy way to add enough rear weight once in awhile. any and all suggestions are appreciated.

Your fine using the rotary cutter as rear ballast ;) Rotary cutter is what's currently on the back of my L1501 for ballast.

In the winter, I use my back blade with some rocks on it for rear ballast. :D

You will have some weight from the rotary cutter (424lbs) and raising it up will help. Adjust your top link so you pick that rear wheel on the mower off the ground. Just remember you now have a tail out back when maneuvering around. If I am doing bucket work, I usually have my box blade on or if I've been mowing, the rotary cutter.

Well if he had his BH on before I'd imagine he's used to an even bigger tail. :D

Thanks everyone. Leave the cutter on, raise it up with wheel off the ground it is. I understand the “ tail” out back. I can manage that. Just wanted to save myself a bunch of work if I could. I have owned my BX for 5years now. Just made my final payment. I just purchased the cutter to mow my trails instead of spraying. Man I feel like I am just now using my tractor fully for the first time. Mowing trails is tough on tractor and mower, but by taking it slow and easy it is doing a wonderful job. Love Orange. Thanks again...Kokomo Joe

The rotary cuter will suffice but it's cumbersome and gets in the way.

A weight box is ideal as it can be loaded as needed and takes up little space. I have two weight boxes, a large one for use with my M9960 and L6060 and a small one for use with my B3350. I too do not load tires for multiple reasons but mostly because I repair/change all of my tires myself and have no way to handle liquid ballast.

Some folks fabricate a suitcase weight carrier or a counterweight made from a suitably sized concrete filled barrel.

I also concur with SDT on use of a ballast box for space compactness and overall weight.

Here's one that is reasonable economical and has some nice features. For added convenience it can be shipped to your door for free. My neighbor purchased the same unit and I was impressed with the speed at which it arrived and the features.

Or it can be bought directly from Titan. If you sign up, they'll send you discount codes to reduce the price further.

Nice ballast box.

I like the built in receiver and the sliding door to allow sand, etc., to be easily removed.

Probably too large for a BX, though.

The small Kubota ballast box, intended for BX and B series tractors, is priced similarly but does not have the built in receiver or the sliding door.
